Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are playing increasingly important roles in consumers’ online interactions with businesses and brands. Consumers may not take the time to regularly visit a website to check on current specials and events, but they will visit and elect to connect with a business’ Facebook or other social pages. On these sites, consumers only have to connect with the business once to then receive regular updates from that business in their real time newsfeed. In this sense, social media makes communicating with consumers easier than it might otherwise be; you don’t have to wait for consumers to come to you, you can go directly to them, posting updates in a place they are already going without an added advertising expense.
The inclusion of a well-maintained blog creates a more dynamic and engaging website for consumers who do visit your site, and allows for an additional means of connecting with them: via RSS feed. Consumers can subscribe to blog posts, allowing updates to be sent directly to their online RSS reader or email account. Interesting and relevant articles encourage readers to share your site with others, thereby expanding your potential customer base. Linking a blog with Facebook and Twitter can serve as an additional traffic generator to your website, as blog headlines will appear as links in followers’ Facebook and Twitter newsfeeds.
Facebook claims more than 500 million active users, 50% of whom log on to Facebook in any given day. According to their statistics, people spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook, which makes it the ideal place to connect with your customers. But, because the average Facebook user has 130 friends (plus a large number of business and social page “Likes”) and Twitter users are, in total, tweeting an average of 55 million tweets a day, it’s also easy to get lost in the plethora of posts without a strong social media strategy. From blog set up and best practice education to creating a fully optimized presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, Pinterest and more – I want to help you make your social media efforts a success.
